Honorable Edgardo J. Angara
Room 504, Senate of the Philippines
GSIS Financial Center, Roxas Boulevard,
Pasay City, Philippines

Dear Senator Angara:

Greetings of joy, love and peace!

I’m Bates M. Bathan, a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Economics major in Agricultural Marketing and Prices at the University of the Philippines. I am writing this letter to request for any assistance that you good office can provide with regards to my intention of enrolling at a graduate school in Seoul National University (SNU).

I finished my undergraduate degree in May 2008 and I am currently working as a Project Development and Research Assistant at Resources, Environment and Economics Center for Studies, Inc. (REECS), a Filipino-owned consultancy firm. Prior to the start of my work on June 16 at REECS, I applied for the Graduate Scholarship for Excellent Foreign Students (GSFS) Program for Fall Semester 2008 of SNU in April. There are 14 colleges providing application and tuition fee waiver and/or financial support to students coming from universities determined by SNU (please refer to GSFS Guideline, Fall 2008). I came to know I was awarded the GSFS for International Studies major in International Commerce under the Graduate School of International Studies (GSIS) on June 17 after receiving an email from Mr. Younghee Noh, GSFS Coordinator at the Office of International Affairs, SNU. However, the scholarship I received only pays for the application and tuition fee. In relation to this, I would like to seek for your kindest consideration in giving me any form of assistance that would allow me to cover the cost of airplane ticket from Philippines to South Korea, dormitory expenses, and a minimal cost of living allowance in Seoul.

To be honest, I’m not certain of what kind of arrangements can be done in order for me to receive financial aid from your office. I will openly and wholeheartedly welcome any form of arrangements you wish to discuss such as your terms and conditions prior to fulfilling this request. As Fall Semester of 2008 will start in September, I hope we could discuss the matter as soon as possible. As you may know, it takes time to settle matters like VISA application, resignation from a company, and other preparations pertinent to studying graduate studies abroad.

I hope and pray to hear a positive response on this request. Words would not be enough to thank you if you would help me realize my dream of obtaining a degree abroad. Even though my parents have been unemployed for a long time, I’ve never lost the will to finish my undergraduate studies. In fact, even when I was in college, I’ve always looked forward in pursuing graduate and post-graduate studies in the near future. It is only through the University of the Philippines Presidential Scholarship that I was able to finish college, and now, I hope that my admission and being granted with an application and tuition fee waiver will not go to waste. My parents, more than financial support, have provided me with inspiration and moral support.

If you have any questions and clarifications, please feel free to reach me at the contact details written in the attached curriculum vitae. Thank you very much and God bless you.

Sincerely yours,

Bates M. Bathan

PS. If you could provide me with an email address where I can send the GSFS Guideline and my curriculum vitae for your reference, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Senator
Rm. 504 5th Flr., GSIS Bldg., Financial Center, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City

Ako po si Antonio R. Pascual na nakatira sa 270# Tuberias St., Brgy. Batis San Juan City.

Antonio R. Pascual
