Angara not part of ambush

BALER, AURORA - Mina F. Pangandaman, Chief of Staff of Senator Edgardo J. Angara said Angara was not the target of an ambush in Dinalungan, Aurora, reports of which leaked to the media earlier this afternoon.

At past 1 p.m. today suspected New People's Army rebels fired at Army soldiers. Troops under 2nd Lt. Torres were fired upon at Brgy. Nipoo in Dinalungan while on their way back to base after providing security assistance to Angara, according to the spot report.

Angara just happened to be in the area to launch the Center for Coconut Production and Research, among the agricultural programs he has initiated in his home province.

Pangandaman said Angara was not part of the convoy as he was traveling by sea to Casiguran at the time of the encounter. She said he was very far away from the encounter and there was no threat to his life.
