Manifesto of Support for Senator Edgardo J. Angara
WHEREAS, we, the officers and board of directors of the Philippine Chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists are alarmed by the rising incidence of endocrine-related diseases such as diabetes, thyroid disorders, obesity, high cholesterol, osteoporosis and high blood pressure.
WHEREAS, we, endocrinologists recognize our role in uplifting the health condition of all Filipinos through the delivery of effective and appropriate health services.
WHEREAS, health service is handicapped by the lack of basic support and policies from government due to lack of funds, allocations and programs and lack of interest among our leaders to focus on providing healthcare to all Filipinos.
WHEREAS, we need a strong and competent leader who will prioritize bigger health allocation and stronger policies on health service delivery and uplifting the condition of our health workers.
WHEREAS, we see that from all our current leaders, Senator Edgardo J. Angara is the one capable of making positive healthcare reforms. To date, Senator Angara has sponsored bills that have eased delivery of health services to all sectors of society. He authored the Senior Citizens' Act that provided benefits to our elderly, the Generics Act, Magna Carta for Public Health Workers, institutionalization of a National Health Insurance for all Filipinos through PHILHEALTH, creation of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for the promotion of health R & D, Rooming-In and Breastfeeding Act of 1992, Philippine Nursing Act of 1991 and Organ Donation Act of 1991, to mention a few.
WHEREAS, Senator Angara has lined up policies that will further improve healthcare delivery and the condition of all health workers. He is pushing for the establishment of a Health Data Center to reinforce health data gathering for better decision-making. He is likewise pushing for the expansion of PHILHEALTH by establishing the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).
WHEREAS, by giving Senator Angara another chance for a seat in the Senate, we can rest assured that the reforms we need would materialize through legislation that will be beneficial to the country.
NOW THEREFORE, we, the officers and board of directors of the Philippine Chapter of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, hereby manifest our strong support for Senator Edgardo J. Angara by affixing our signatures below.
